Scream Effects Co. and fearless audio innovators Dreadnoise have supported each other’s work for years. When Dreadnoise Lead, Liam, shared recent technological advancements to the Audio Armor system that could allow it to be mounted directly to props, we knew a collaboration was in order—potentially creating a world first.

Two weeks before ScareCON 2024, we pitched the idea of a sci-fi alien in a containment cage, crossed with a flying saucer. Liam loved the concept, and armed with nothing more than a sketch on scrap paper, both teams got to work.

Liam created a bespoke Audio Armor suit for the creature with 15 tracks for a wide range of depth and interactivity, while our workshop—over 200 miles away—built the alien puppet and suspension cage. We worked closely to ensure the control system integrated seamlessly, developing wooden mock-ups and even To complete the illusion,  a cover for the wrist-mounted control module to demonstrate just how smoothly the system could be embedded into a prop. Which Liam refined to 60% smaller by the event day to our surprise highlighting how fast moving and innovative his company is.

The final creation was a handheld puppet-style alien complete with lights, smells, and—for the first time ever—interactive, fully wireless, controllable sounds. The prop was showcased for one day and night only at ScareCON 2024, where it became a major talking point, sparking imaginations across the industry.

This version of the system is not yet commercially available, but the core Audio Armor technology is available through Dreadnoise. We look forward to future collaborations to keep pushing the boundaries of immersive audio-prop integration.
